backyard cooking

Project Overview

The campfire was the original kitchen. Backyard Cooking brings simplicity and joy to eating outdoors. Designed for travellers exploring New Zealand’s vast landscapes, the book proves that good food belongs everywhere — even under the open sky. The recipes are unfussy, the ingredients easy to find, yet the experience is rich with connection and flavour.

The design needed to feel as relaxed and approachable as a camping holiday — practical, clear, and infused with authentic charm.

My Role

As part of my studies at Media Design School, I crafted a layout rooted in clarity and ease. A clean grid guided navigation, hand-drawn typography added warmth, and imagery softened with earthy tones captured the timeless camping spirit. I integrated local insights — from campsite guides to nearby farmers’ markets — turning the book into more than a collection of recipes. It became a companion for travellers eager to savour both food and place.
